Claremore Regional Airport Celebrates Record Year and Looks Ahead to Expansive Growth
By Miami News-Digest
CLAREMORE, Okla. — Claremore Regional Airport (CQB) marked a significant milestone in 2024, building on its status as a pivotal aviation facility in Northeast Oklahoma. Spanning 565 acres, the airport serves 86 base aircraft, with a mix of private hangars, t-hangars, and common hangar space to accommodate growing aviation demands. The facility has seen a steady increase in operations, recording nearly 12,400 takeoffs and landings throughout the year, a testament to the airport’s thriving role in regional aviation.
With its operational success, the airport has placed a strong emphasis on enhancing services and ensuring safety. To improve communication with its tenants and the broader aviation community, Claremore Regional launched a new texting service in 2024. This service quickly disseminates important updates such as airfield closures, maintenance schedules, and fuel price changes—keeping aviators informed in real time.
Another key development this year is the redesigned airport website, which now offers a user-friendly interface that allows tenants to access updated fuel prices, sign up for events, and easily find essential resources. The website’s enhanced functionality is part of an ongoing effort to optimize operational efficiency and tenant experience.
"Claremore Regional continues to make strides in providing an enhanced experience for both tenants and visitors," said Colby Linder, Claremore Regional Airport Manager. "Our growth this year is a direct result of collaborative efforts with our partners and the unwavering support of our local and state agencies."
In addition to these updates, the airport has prioritized safety through a series of operational improvements. Claremore Regional revised its Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and refined its airfield training manual to better align with current best practices. Furthermore, the airport hosted a comprehensive FAA Part 139 fuel training program for staff to bolster compliance with federal regulations and improve fuel handling protocols.
Plans for Future Expansion
Looking ahead, Claremore Regional Airport is preparing for a series of transformative projects aimed at bolstering capacity and modernizing the facility. The most significant of these projects is the upcoming renovation of the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) facility, set to begin in 2025. The remodel will introduce modern amenities designed to enhance the experience for pilots, crew members, and visitors. As part of the modernization efforts, new Jet A and Avgas refuelers will be added to the fleet, ensuring the airport can continue to meet the increasing demand for fueling services.
Further investments are on the horizon thanks to a grant awarded to the airport by the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA). In December 2024, the ODAA provided funding for the purchase of a new Jet A refuel truck, a key addition that will further improve the airport’s fueling capacity.
The expansion efforts also include an updated Airport Layout Plan (ALP), which will help the airport address fire suppression requirements and accommodate the development of an additional 40 acres northeast of the current airfield. The area will support future expansion of aviation-related services, including new hangars, parking spaces, and possibly additional terminal facilities.
Major Capital Improvements
In line with these developments, the airport’s FY26-FY30 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) outlines a bold $13.3 million investment over the next five years. Among the most anticipated projects is the construction of a new commercial hangar measuring 100 feet by 60 feet, slated for completion in 2025. This new hangar will cater to growing demand from both private and commercial aircraft operators in the region.
Construction work is already underway on several key infrastructure projects. The relocation of utility lines is nearing completion, followed by the pouring of a new concrete drainage channel to improve water management on the airfield. The airport is also in the final stages of a major overhaul of its septic system to enhance sustainability and minimize environmental impact.
“These enhancements are part of a broader vision to ensure that Claremore Regional can continue to support the growing needs of the aviation community for many years to come,” said Linder.
Continued Commitment to Community and Partnerships
Claremore Regional Airport has long relied on strong partnerships with the City of Claremore, the Oklahoma Department of Aeronautics, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Linder expressed his gratitude for the collaborative efforts that have made the airport’s growth possible. “We are deeply appreciative of the support we’ve received from our tenants, local businesses, and government agencies,” he said. “It is through these partnerships that we can continue to innovate and provide a world-class facility.”
As the airport looks toward future development, Linder emphasized that these projects are not just about expansion but also about improving service offerings and ensuring that Claremore Regional remains a vital asset to the regional economy and aviation community.
