Newton County Deputies Arrest Burglary Suspect in Dover Lane Incident

NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. — A burglary suspect was arrested Monday evening after being found in an abandoned residence on the property where a burglary was reported, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a possible burglary at approximately 4:24 p.m. at 7547 Dover Lane after the property owner reported hearing a gunshot in the area. Upon arrival, deputies conducted a search and located the suspect in an unoccupied building on the property.
The suspect, identified as Nicholas Cutbirth, was taken into custody without incident, authorities said.
A search of Cutbirth revealed he was carrying several firearms and wearing a bulletproof vest. Deputies also found a controlled substance in his possession.
Cutbirth was arrested on multiple felony charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm, stealing a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance. He was also taken into custody on an active felony burglary warrant out of Jasper County.
The Neosho Police Department assisted in the search, deploying a drone to aid deputies at the scene.
The Newton County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing charges against Cutbirth, and the investigation remains ongoing.
As with any criminal case, the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, as guaranteed under the Constitution.
