Eastern Shawnee Tribe Offers Enriching Community Events in February

Hand Drum Class - February 15, 2025

Join the Eastern Shawnee Tribe for an immersive Hand Drum Class on Thursday, February 15, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the George J. Captain Library, located at 12705 S. 705 Rd., Wyandotte, OK, near the ESTOO Powwow Grounds.

This free event will delve into the cultural and historical importance of drumming while allowing participants to craft their own hand drums to take home. Limited to 15 attendees (one drum per household), this is an excellent opportunity for adults and youth aged 10 and older to bond while learning together.

Parenting Skills Workshop - February 18 & 20, 2025

Strengthen your parenting toolkit with the Tribe's quarterly workshop, "Building Your Parenting Skills," held on February 18 and 20, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Eastern Shawnee AOA, 10170 S. Bluejacket Rd., Wyandotte, OK.

Facilitated by Kathie Benson, a Licensed Professional Counselor with nearly 30 years of experience, the workshop covers essential topics like:

  • Teaching and spending time with children
  • Seeing discipline as teaching
  • Setting and enforcing limits
  • Understanding child temperament and development
