Cherokee Nation’s Gadugi Corps Opens Volunteer Applications

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Cherokee Nation is now accepting volunteers for its Gadugi Corps through the Gadugi Portal. Tribal citizens can sign in at https://gadugiportal.cherokee.org, select "Applications" from the top navigation bar, and choose "Gadugi Corps" from the list of available programs.
(Photo: Cherokee Nation)The Gadugi Corps, established by Executive Order 2023-03-CTH on August 17, 2023, by Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr., aims to consolidate, create, expand, and improve volunteerism and national service opportunities within the Cherokee Nation. The program features several branches:
- Gadugi Education Corps: Provides short-term supplemental education to Cherokee Nation communities with demonstrated education gaps.
- Gadugi Community Service Corps: Engages volunteers in community-based projects, often addressing needs such as serving elders and children.
- Gadugi Mentor Corps: Offers educational and career mentorship for Cherokee Nation youth and young adults.
- Gadugi Disaster Response Corps: Trains volunteers to assist with natural disaster or infrastructure failure response and recovery.
- Gadugi At-Large Service Corps: Allows Cherokee citizens living outside the Cherokee Nation Reservation to participate in special service projects.
Chief Hoskin emphasized the program’s importance, stating, “We all possess ideas and talents that can power our communities and our tribe.”
The term "Gadugi" reflects the Cherokee tradition of coming together to work for the good of all, embodying the spirit of community and mutual aid.
